Our Reflections: Emily Song

We organized an activity where we took the children from the Life-Giving Tree Organization to the Seoul Grand Park Zoo, and I found it to be incredibly fulfilling. It was disheartening yet touching to see the children, who usually don't get to engage in various activities at the facility, running around and enjoying themselves outdoors. I was also informed beforehand that everything must be distributed equally among the children, and I truly realized this when I saw how one child having something made the others want it too. The thought that these children have to share even the love of a single caregiver deeply saddened me. Thus, I felt grateful for the opportunity to hold their hands, walk with them, and engage in fun activities.
During the summer break, I taught 15 children how to use Arduino and Entry, which was challenging but rewarding. The children connected wires, set up circuits to light up LEDs, used joysticks, and even created games. Preparing for these lessons taught me many things I didn't know before, and I also learned better ways to explain and teach. It would be great if this experience sparks their interest in robotics and encourages them to explore more on their own. I hope they will experience a variety of activities beyond robotics and find their own interests.

Furthermore, we are planning a fundraising event, hoping that many school friends will participate to raise money. With the funds, we plan to gift educational materials and clothing to the children. Even the planning stage, deciding what snacks to buy and from where, required a lot of thought. I'm looking forward to seeing the children's happiness when they receive these new items.
